Detroit Board of Police Commissioners

He has spent his life as a dedicated public servant. A resident of East English Village for more than 40 years, he was elected to the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners for District 4 in November 2013 for a four-year term. He presently serves as Chairman for the 2016-2017 year.

He is a graduate of Northeastern H.S. and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Central Michigan University.

After leaving high school, he worked at Chevrolet Gear and Axle leaving to join the army where he saw action in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1969 with the rank of Sergeant.

In 1971, Mr. Bell joined the Detroit Police Department. His last assignment was with the Office of Chief Investigator on the Board of Police Commissioners. Mr. Bell retired from the DPD as a Lieutenant in 2003 after 32 years of service.

As a member of Plymouth United Church of Christ in Detroit,  he has served on the Board of Deacons and is now serving as an ordained Deacon. He is also a long time member of the Plymouth Housing Board and Church Moderator.
